They are identical to the corrected version, except that the word "it's" is incorrectly used as a possessive a few times, and there is one mismatched plural subject/singular verb.

He Ain't Heavy

He's my brother Greg. Who was kind enough to proof read the book and make a bunch of suggestions. Some were simple typos or grammatical errors (I used "it's" instead of "its" - twice!) Others were factual - the Redwoods have become Western Hemlocks. And a couple I didn't use at all  (I know that Corelli doesn't talk like an FBI agent - that's the point!)

Anyway, I've updated the files at the links in the previous posts. But they won't be available for long; soon there will only be a preview (first few chapters) while I search for an agent or publisher. Any help in that pursuit will be greatly appreciated.

No longer a draft!

Well, that didn't take long. As it turned out, there was very little I wanted to change. A couple of paragraphs here and there. Plus fixing some some continuity issues - at one point, Laramie got into a Lincoln and got out of a Caddy. Stuff like that. And some grammatical issues. The biggest changes were to descriptions of Allen's deterioration.

I'm pretty happy with it overall. If you are already reading, you might want to re-download. The substantial changes are all in the second half of the book. We'll see what changes the publisher wants as soon as I find one. Meanwhile, the next book is already writing itself in my head. Can you guess which character will span them both?

Wow - eight months late, the first draft is finished. I realized that I was stalling, avoiding the next steps which include actually trying to market the book. For the moment, it's still free (but copyrighted) to anyone who finds it here. Comment away, I just want to know that people have actually read it.

For those who have been following along, Chapter 56 has moved up to Chapter 63. The I'd gotten ahead of myself. Best thing is to pick up the whole work and if you've been reading just start up at 56 again.

So I have two things to do simultaneously now. First thing is some editing. A few continuity problems (exactly how old is Tali anyway?) and maybe paring down some of the explanations of the theories of time. It isn't hard to get repetitive when you go months between chapters. Tightening up the language a little. The hardest part is going to be rewriting chapter #23 - Allen's subconscious motivations. And I need to solidify Spaz's character so it carries through to the end. But the story itself won't change until the Coen Brothers insist on it.

Second, I'm going to start shopping it to literary agents. I suspect the rewrites will take much less time than the marketing, no reason not to send a sample of draft #1 out. If anyone has any advice or connections in this regard, PLEASE! let me know. I'll take all the help I can get.

Almost there!

Nearly finished - as I will soon be unemployed for a while, and Quills rehearsals will be over soon, I should be able to get back to this and write the conclusion by the end of January. Seriously. I only have three chapters left to write, but one of them is very ... intricate.
